A meeting was planned two months ago to discuss the new action plan for my classic autistic son.
It was at the location where my son lives.
A walk, bus, train, bus, another walk, sitting 90 minutes, and back again.
Last sunday I stretched my leg and the nerve that is moving outside the spine got caught. Resulting in weakness in the leg and a horrible back pain.
It happened before, is one of the risks of landing permanently in a wheelchair, so I know it'll take about a week to get back to less pain.
So I asked immediately if the meeting could be moved to a location near the station. There is a center for meetings.
I got the answer that the other person needed to be asked, but I should be aware they have other meetings too.
My answer was that I have got other meetings and a busy schedule too.
So my suggestion was to end the meeting 5 minutes earlier, so they could get back to the location and be in time there for the other meetings. (In the car it just takes a few minutes.)
The answer was "No".
They could call me after the meeting to hear what I had to say.
So I accentuated my immobility issues (not mentioning there might be snow and I might not even be able to walk!).
Said I would wait for their written plan and review it.
It's clear that they won't take into account that other people are less mobile.
Good to know.

I am so sorry for these frustrations and lack of consideration. People just don't want to be "inconvenienced" for those with needs and concerns anymore. It's a sad state of affairs. Praying things will be worked out positively on behalf of your son, one way or the other.
ReplyDeleteThanks. it will work out for my son. But it's interesting that these people work for an organisation that advertises: participation for everyone.
