To all, a very merry christmas.
The message of peace has changed in the media, in the light of wars, famine, homelessness and loneliness, to a message of inner peace and being in peace with the world.
It's like people finally start to realize that they should be ashamed to indulge in luxury, without any sharing, while many in the world suffer such a lot.
But there are always people who are just living in their own little world, without looking around.
At Christmas Eve I was talking with a veteran who is in about the same circumstances as I am.
Because of physical problems he can't leave the house at the moment.
His loneliness was accentuated the past week by neighbours hanging all sorts of lights outside their houses. His house is the only one in the street without any decoration. The other years he also had lights, and he used to have large baubles hanging from ribbons in the front window, and candy cane ribbon tied around the rainpipes and a wreath on the door.
None bothered to ask their neighbour if he needed some groceries.
His wife used to fetch them, but she died in februari. His sudden illness prevented him to prepare for these days.
The same happened here.
The kids expect their sister, who lives here in the house, to take care of everything. But she can't. She is ill. Only the absolute necessary is done. Warming a meal, doing the laundry and once a week put the vaccuumcleaner in front of me, so I can clean around the couch, and she quickly does the rest. I see her once in a while, but she is on her bed upstairs most time of the day.
One of the boys brought some cookies (which I am not allowed to eat, but are good against hypos), and a piece of cheese.
But I didn't see anyone during Christmas Eve.
Which was a kind of double feeling. It would have been nice to see someone, but it also made it possible to talk to some veteran online and give them a listening ear an a good conversation.
As this veteran appreciated the time together on the phone, and he saw a talk for him there too, we agreed he will follow some courses and join me next year in availability for veteran care during christmastime.
It really touched me.
My christmas miracle of 2024.
