We used to be able to buy cheap traincards, to be used in one day to travel anywhere in the country.
At least once a year we went and we had good times.
I remember when we went to the north of the country during one of those winters, the north had snow, we didn't have even one tiny flake.
We went as north as possible... the oldest knew there wass a supermarket near the station...that was about it.
The landscape was amazing. Endless white stretches with a farm here and there. We absolutely loved the panoramas.
The railwaystation was in the middle of those white areas.. and the supermarket was there.
We bought a few things and went back to the station...where a few people were standing talking to each other.
It turned out that due to the enormous snowfall there would be no trains anymore!!!!!
And there was snowfall!
We could hardly see the supermarket through the thick large flakes!
As we couldn't imagine staying there the night (the station was cold, the shop would be closed at the end of the afternoon) we decided to contact the railways to inform them 10 people were stuck in the middle of nowhere. (The 4 of us and 6 other people).
We were told to expect a train to fetch us, but it might take a long time.
Lets say the shop was warm enough for a wait, and they allowed us to stay there.
Then we were called the train was nea the railwaystation.
So we struggled through the high snow to the train and were happy it was warm.
We were brought to one of the main stations more south.
There we got vouchers for tea or coffee.
We had to wait on the platform... We tried to protect ourselves against the wind.
The coffee was luke warm water with a colour...no taste.
More and more people arrived who were stuck, as no trains left there.
We expected to get more south that evening, as it would cost the railways a lot of money to have us stay at a hotel.
And the train came. A doubledecker. We found a place on the stairs, with one of us standing. It was horribly crowded inside, but warm.
Part of thr trip we were even singing...
We arrived home near midnight.... Pffff...
The all day, travel everywhere, tickets were changed into tickets for off peak tickets.
So we went to the beach regularly. As we could get home when we left there after dinner time.
That was always real pleasure. We don't like to bake in the sun, but we do like walking in the sea, visiting friends and eating fresh fish.
But now the cheap tickets have disappeared.
So last year we didn't go to the beach.
And next year the tickets will get a lot more expensive.
So even traveling to the next town, where one of the twins lives, will be too expensive.
The government states it wants loneliness to stop... but this way they won't...
