A couple of times a week... most weeks. - Do you have an outdoor mailbox or does the mail come through the door. On the mat?
Most people here have the mailbox in the door... Just a simple gap with in front a kind of iron flap, and behind it a brush (against the wind.). It's just a few cm high. The enveloped drop on the floor. - Do you have a regular mailperson?
On saturdays we have our "5th son". He is the kindest person and I would trust him completely with my house or when I need help. We know him many many years now. Have him seen growing up from very young man/boy to man. We've had many comversations.
Before he came we had the mailman we already had when we were at the student-appartment. He moved with us to the regular appartment. Rang the doorbell when he found out we were living there and told us he was happy to be transferred to that neighbourhood now. At first he didn't like it, but with us being there... That were quit a lot of coffees before we moved to this house.
Upon his request he was able to be our mailman until he retired, a few months later.
We now have during the week, most of the time, aa young lady with speial needs.
She doesn't talk with anyone but me. It took a lot of thank you's, and a few remarks about the weather until she trusted herself to say that the weather was indeed not good. One way or another she must have liked my reply.. So now we have a very short friendly talk when I see her, and I can see she likes it.
The rest of the mailpeople are changing from day to day. - Can you tell something about a favorite mailperson?

The deliveries are.. eh.. officially not on monday, but most of the time also not on thursdays. - Is you mail always in time?
No. My daughter was told she would get mail yesterday, and now it will be monday.... if it arrives.
Sometimes it says it will arive in the morning, and it keeps changing all the time and then it arrives the next day.
It has become a real pain!
How nice that you are able to actually talk to your mail person and get acquainted with them. Ours comes in a jeep and delivers the mail to our mailbox out on the side of the street. Unless we just happen to be outside, we never see them. They do come every day, however, unless of course we don't have any mail to deliver, then they just drive on by. We don't get a lot of "real mail" these days, but always seem to get some kind of "junk mail", advertisements for things we have no interest in and I don't know why companies waste so much money on postage for stuff that will go into the trash mostly everywhere. What do you do if you have mail to go out? Do you have to take it somewhere else, since your mail is dropped through the door? We put our outgoing mail into our mailbox and put up a little flag that is on the side of the box so that the mailman knows there is something to pick up. We currently need to replace our mailbox, because it was damaged when a crazy driver ran into three mailboxes on our street and destroyed one of them, and damaged our mail box door. My hubby has fastened it back on with a zip tie, but it is not perfect and the door often doesn't want to stay shut. So I have added a new mailbox to my shopping list when we next go to Walmart or someplace where they are not too expensive. Such a hassle, and of course the perpetrator did not stop or offer to replace the neighbor's destroyed mailbox/and post. Just thankful no person or animal was in the way of his crazy driving. BTW: My Daddy worked for the post office for many years and retired from it. He used to do home deliveries, but then "graduated" to working in the post office. He knew everyone in town! LOL.
ReplyDeleteWe get junk mail once a week. Nicely wrapped in plastic. One can make a choice what to receive, so I won't recieve those that are easy to access online. People can also make the choice not to receive any of it. Then they have to put a special sticker on their mailbox.
DeleteI didn't know about the flag. Saw it was on the mailboxes, but didn't know what what was the use of them.
Outgoing mail needd to be brought to a mailbox at the main street around the neighbourhood or to a special shop. Postage is with stamps or with a code one can buy online.
Horrible, such an accident. So much damage. Happy none was injured!! But that he drove off!!!! Ugh!
Interesting your dad worked there.
My father worked at the phone office in a larger town. Designed the small buildings with all the equipment and he was one of the two people who went to England to learn there about glassfiber and bring that to The Netherlands.
I worked at the phone office in my town, as an information telephonist. Great time!!
