Finally got the result of the DEXA scan. (Bone density).
The GP told me it was osteopenia, so no worry, no special advice, no meds.
The spine couldn't be scored by the computer, but there was no problem.
I wondered about the last, as my neck always has posed problems. And scoliosis and kyfosis, bot very bad, but left untreated, was not even mentioned.
Well, the report and scan results showed that there is reason to worry.
Some parts of the bones are rather OK.
But the most important parts in the hip are just one tenth below the osteoporosis diagnosis.
So there is an increaed risk of breaking my hips, thank you very much.
So far for taking all results, put them on a pile and brainlessly calculate an average.
I wouldn't have looked as closely at the direct results, of the radiologist of my ankle hadn't mentioned a low bone density in my ankle. Thanks!!
The spine couldn't be evaluated, because the result was a complete mess.
The woman probably had not calculated the input for the computer very well.
So I asked the GP for a new AVF scan.
Th GP said she didn't know that any repeats were necessary in a few years. So I gave her the info, where to find it, and told her that also the decision to skip advice and medication was not a wise one. Especially not as I am not mobile and she didn't get a family anamnesis. My aunt had severe osteoporosis and my mother never dared to look into the issue.
Of course repeats are necessary as there is a high risk of developing fullblown osteoporosis. That can go very fast.
How stupid can you be?
Next week a heart MRI is planned and one is not supposed to bring metal into the room, let alone into the MRI.
I had to fill in a questionnaire and clearly statd there is metal in my ankle and who plced it. THe surgeon is in the same hospital, so knowing which kind of metal is just one call away.
"Ma'am, there is no mention of metal on the request form."
"No, because the cardiologist requested the MRI right after they did an ultrasound at the emergency room. That was before they even did the x-rays of the ankle."
Then she got in my files and had a scare.
"Oh, it's clearly there!!!"
"Yes and I have mailed your department about it two times. And got no answer."
So we agreed she will get in contact with the safety commission and the surgeon, and I will get a message in my medical system when the scan can't be done.
What mess!
If they can't do the scan....
Imagine: I asked about this even befor surgery!!

I wonder about people who don't have the understanding and knowledge that you have about these medical things...how are they being treated? How much is being overlooked or not looked at at all? Wow! There is so much incompetence in the medical field it seems. We have to be our own best advocate to make sure things are being taken care of. Wow. Please keep us updated on your situation. I wonder what they will do about the MRI? Although the MRI is a wonderful tool, it does have its limitations because of the metal issue. Hopefully they will come up with some kind of reasonable solution to give you the necessary tests.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this with us. It makes me want to pay more attention to my own medical exams, etc.
I wonder about the same.
DeleteIf I hadn't know there probably wouln't have been awareness of the risk...until I broke my hip(s), and I wouldn't have had a repeat, nor would have adjusted diet and medications.
Th medical field keeps complaining about so many old people with "issues". At least part is the result of lack of prevention and awareness of risks.
I haven't heard anything about the MRI being cancelled.... which should have been known by now...
