- Have you traveled abroad? Where have you been? If you haven't been overseas, which country would you most like to visit?
Yes.
Germany
Belgium
Luxembrug
France,
Austria,
Italy
>>>>UK (England, Scotland, Wales) - Where did you go on your last trip? Talk about where you went and what you did.
England (UK)
I went first to Middle Wallop, in Hampshire
Camping with the veterans.
I am there as a friend and as a psychological caretaker if needed.
After that I went to London for a day and enjoyed being alone, walking around, etc etc. - What is the best place for a vacation in your country? Why is it good?
Depends what you want.
Visiting museums and such: Amsterdam.
Watching nice old houses: Delft
Watching tulips and other flowers: Keukenhof, area around Lisse.
Beach: area beside the North Sea/Canal, but also Ijsselmeer and Veluwemeer.
Walking: South Limburg and Veluwe
etc etc. - What is the longest time you have been away from home? Did you feel homesick?
When I was 8 years I was put in a children's home for 6 months.
I missed my gram and father. - How long should a vacation be? How long does it take you to really relax?
A weekend is not enough.
Life is so hectic here that I can't relax fully within a few days.
So now we're going to Remembrance Day and have planned a full week in London. - What forms of transportation do you prefer to use when you travel?
I love to fly, but we can only afford the cheap airlines, so that means the longest walk on the airports. And a lot to do with taking insulin.
The consequence is too that we land in Stansted...so another hour by bus. To and fro.
So I prefer the train.
From here to Rotterdam, from Rotterdam to London.
No long walks, arriving near the hotel in London or a fast commute to the train to Hampshire.
The last time I went early in the morning and arrived in Hampshire in the afternoon. - How do you choose where to go? Are you inspired by other people's travel stories? Or photos? Or advertising?
I wish!!!
My choice is for the veterans.
I would love to train through Alaska
Go to Scotland.
Go to Cape Verde to travel to the inner country.
Go to Mt. Everest basecamp.
I am mainly inspired by what I see in travelprograms on TV. - What's more important to you when you travel - comfort and relaxation, or stimulating new experiences?
Both!!
But money is the dictator in my case.
So I travel as a means, not as a goal. - Do you like to try local foods when you go somewhere? Have you ever had something really delicious?
Yes... but I have become more careful since on insulin.
I always enjoy good food. - Things can go wrong when you travel. Have you had any bad travel experiences?
Yes.
In 2023: See the text at the height of the camera when you use a laptop or computer: here
This year, last trip, my tent was leaking... enormously and when I was on my way home the Eurostar was seriously delayed. I couldn't get home by public transport anymore, so someone had to fetch me through horrible weatherconditions. - Do you take a lot with you when you travel? Or do you try to pack light?
Always light.
When I go camping with the veterans in England they have tent, sleepingbag and something warm to wear. Cups and the whole lot. So I take toileteries, clean clothes, and a bag with medications and the pile of paperwork. - Which places in the world do you think are too dangerous to visit? Why are they dangerous?
War areas!!
I would love to go to Mt. Everest, but with my heartissues... - What is the best age to travel? Can children appreciate the experience?
I had autistic kids, so travelling was not for us.
I went with my dad when I was 11 and had a very good time. - What are the advantages and disadvantages of traveling alone?
For me the advantage is that I don't have to adjust my pace to the longer and faster ones of my sons.
At times it's handy to get an open door, somone who lifts the suitcase. - What kind of accommodation do you like to stay in when you travel?
I am OK with a tent, but I feel secretly that a deserve more comfort. I can't sleep on an airbag, and P, who owns the tent, wants no military bed in there... so I sleep on a mat on the floor. I am not complaining, but...
I have two hotels I stay.
In London it's near the railwaystation. It's old, with sometimes broken items, but one way or another it's clean and I feel at home with the people who run it.
In Andover it's old, but last time I was there alone and I felt perfectly OK.
Of couse I feel better in posh hotels, with staff. I would love to stay in the RAF club and be cared for... but they only allow family members of living people. They used to host family members of ied veterans. - Do you like to talk to the local people when you travel? Why or why not?
I always o, certainly when I am alone.
I love the accents and I have met a lot of very interesting people. - Would you like to go to a big international event, such as the Olympics or an international film festival? What would be good or bad about attending such an event?
The paralympics were here and son1 promissed to take us there. yeea...right. Like all of his other promisses of the past 2 years... nothing at the last moment.
I would love to go to the Olympics. But money, money, money.... Ad there is of course a huge threat... which I will forget when someone has a ticket and a way to go there, all expenses paid. LOL! (So I dream on!)
I'm not much of a "tent" person. We were talking with friends last night and they have an Aerostream and were talking about how hot it was last weekend when they were camping. It was around 100 degrees (F) outside.
ReplyDeleteI don't like weekend trips, but I LOVE the train!
ReplyDeleteI am not a big fan of camping either. Maybe in an RV but certainly not in a tent. We did that when I was a child and I don't recall many good memories from it.
